UNTUK RENUNGAN BERSAMA :KENAPA YAHUDI BIJAK.

Mengapa Yahudi Bijak

Setelah berada 3 tahun di Israel kerana menjalani housemanship dibeberapa hospital di sana, ada beberapa perkara yang menarik dapat saya perhatikan untuk dijadikan tesis ini, iaitu "Mengapa Yahudi Bijak?". Memang tidak dapat dinafikan ramai cendikiawan berbangsa Yahudi, dari segala bidang, kejuruteraan, muzik, saintis dan yang paling hebat ialah bidang perniagaan, dimana ia memang paling tersohor. Hampir 70% perniagaan di dunia dikuasai oleh kaum Yahudi, dari kosmetik, pakaian, pemakanan, senjata, perhotelan, perfileman di Hollywood dan sebagainya.

Ketika tahun kedua, akhir bulan December 1980 dan sedang saya menghitung hari untuk pulang ke California saya terfikir apakah sebabnya kaum Yahudi begitu pintar? Kenapa tuhan memberi kelebihan kepada mereka? Apakah ini suatu kebetulan? Atau olah manusia sendiri? Adakah bijak boleh dijana? Seperti kilang pengeluaran?

Maka saya pun tergerak membuat tesis untuk Phd saya, disamping kebaikan untuk umat sejagat dan dapat hidup secara harmoni. Untuk pengetahuan anda tesis yang saya lakukan ini mengambil masa hampir lapan tahun, ini kerana untuk mengumpulkan data-data yang setepat mungkin.

Antara data-data yang saya kumpulkan ialah pemakanan, adat resam, agama, persiapan awal untuk melahirkan zuriat dan sebagainya dan data-data tadi saya cuba bandingkan dengan bangsa dan kaum kaum lain.

Marilah kita mulakan dengan persiapan awal melahirkan zuriat. Di Israel, setelah mengetahui yang si ibu sedang mengandung, pertama kali saya perhatikan ialah, si ibu akan sering menyanyi dan bermain piano dan si ibu dan bapa akan membeli buku metamatik dan menyelesaikan masalah metamatik bersama suami, saya sungguh hairan kerana teman saya yang mengandung sering membawa buku metamatik dan bertanya kepada saya beberapa soalan yang beliau tak dapat menyelesaikanya, oleh kerana saya memang minat tentang metamatik, tentu saja dengan senang saya bantu beliau. Saya bertanya kepada beliau, adakah ini untuk anak kamu? Beliau menjawab, "ya, ini untuk anak saya yang masih di dalam kandungan, saya sedang melatih otak beliau, semuga dia menjadi genius apabila dewasa kelak" Perkara ini membuat saya tertarik untuk mengikut perkembangan beliau seterusnya. Berbalik kepada metamatik tadi, tanpa merasa jenuh beliau membuat latihan metamatik sehingga beliau melahirkan anak.

Seperkara lagi yang saya perhatikan ialah pemakanan beliau, sejak awal mengandung beliau gemar sekali memakan kacang badam dan kurma bersama susu, dan untuk tengah hari makan utama beliau ialah roti dan ikan tanpa kepala bersama salad yang digaul dengan badam dan berbagai jenis kekacang, menurut beliau daging ikan sungguh baik untuk perkembangan otak dan kepala ikan mengandungi kimia yang tidak baik yang dapat merosakkan pengembangan dan penumbuhan otak anak di dalam kandungan. menurut beliau ini adalah adat orang orang Yahudi ketika mengandung dan ianya menjadi semacam kewajipan untuk ibu-ibu yang sedang mengandung mengambil pil minyak ikan.

Ketika saya diundang untuk makan malam bersama orang orang Yahudi, perkara pertama yang saya perhatikan ialah menu mereka. Setiap undangan yang sama perhatikan ialah mereka gemar sekali memakan ikan (hanya isi atau fillet) dan biasanya daging tidak akan ada bersama dimeja jika ada ikan, menurut mereka, campuran daging dan ikan tak elok dimakan bersama. Salad dan kacang adalah suatu kemestian, terutama badam.

Seperkara yang pelik ialah mereka akan memakan buah-buahan dahulu sebelum memakan hidangan utama. Jangan terperanjat jika anda diundang kerumah Yahudi anda akan dihidangkan buah-buahan dahulu. Menurut mereka, dengan memakan hidangan kabohidrat (nasi atau roti) dahulu kemudian buah-buahan, ini akan menyebabkan kita merasa mengantuk dan lemah dan payah untuk memahami pelajaran disekolah.

Di Israel, merokok adalah taboo, apabila anda diundang makan dirumah Yahudi, jangan sekali kali merokok, dan tanpa malu mereka akan menyuruh anda keluar dari rumah mereka dan merokok di luar rumah mereka. Menurut saintis di Universiti Israel, siasatan menunjukkan nikotin dapat merosakkan sel utama pada otak manusia dan akan melekat pada gen, ini bermakna keturunan perokok bakal membawa generasi yang cacat otak (bodoh atau lembab). Suatu penemuan yang dahsyat ditemui oleh saintis yang mendalami bidang gen dan DNA. Para perokok harap ambil perhatian. (Ironinya, pemilik pengeluar rokok terbesar adalah …… tekalah sendiri..!)

Perhatian saya selanjutnya ialah melawati tadika mereka, Pemakanan anak anak tadi cukup dikawal, makanan awal ialah buah-buahan bersama kacang badam, diikuti dengan menelan pil minyak ikan (code oil lever) Didalam pengamatan saya, kanak Yahudi sungguh bijak dan rata-rata mereka memahami 3 bahasa iaitu Hebrew, Arab dan Inggeris dan sedari awal lagi mereka telah dilatih bermain piano dan violin, ini adalah suatu kewajipan. Menurut mereka bermain muzik dan memahami nota-notanya dapat meningkatkan lagi IQ kanak-kanak dan sudah tentu bakal menjadikan budak itu bijak.

Ini menurut saintis Yahudi, gegaran muzik dapat stimulate (semacam senaman untuk otak) maka itu terdapat ramai sekali genius muzik terdiri daripada kaum Yahudi.

Seterusnya ke darjah 1 hingga 6, anak-anak Yahudi akan diajar metamatik berkonsepkan perniagaan dan pelajaran sains amatlah diberi keutamaan. Di dalam perhatian peribadi saya, perbandingan dengan anak-anak di California, ianya jauh berbeza tentang IQ dan boleh saya katakan 6 tahun kebelakang!! !. Segala pelajaran akan dengan mudah di tangkap oleh anak Yahudi. Selain dari pelajaran tadi sukan juga menjadi kewajipan bagi mereka dan sukan yang diberi keutamaan ialah memanah, menembak dan berlari, menurut teman saya ini, memanah dan menembak dapat melatih otak memfokus sesuatu perkara disamping mempermudahkan persiapan untuk perhidmatan negara.

Selanjutnya pemerhatian saya menuju ke sekolah tinggi (menengah) disini murid-murid ditekan dengan pelajaran mata sains dan mereka digalakkan mencipta produk, segala projek mereka walaupun kadangkala kelihatannya lucu dan mengarut, tetap diteliti dengan serius apatah lagi ianya berupa senjata, perubatan dan kejuruteraan, idea itu akan dibawa ke institut tinggi di Politeknik dan Universiti.

Satu lagi yang diberi keutamaan ialah fakulti perniagaan. Saya sungguh terperanjat melihat mereka begitu agresif dan seriusnya mereka tentang perniagaan. Diakhir tahun di universiti, para penuntut dibidang niaga dikehendaki melakukan projek dan memperaktikkanya dan anda hanya akan lulus jika kumpulan anda (10 pelajar setiap kumpulan) dapat keuntungan sebanyak $US1juta! Anda terperanjat? Itulah kenyataan, dengan rangkaian seluruh dunia dan ditaja sepenuhnya oleh syarikat milik Yahudi, maka tidak hairanlah mereka dapat menguasai ½ perniagaan di dunia! Siapakah yang mencipta design Levis yang terkini? Ianya dicipta di Universiti Israel oleh fakulti bisnes dan fesyen.

Pernahkah anda melihat cara orang Yahudi melakukan ibadah mereka? Salah satu caranya ialah dengan menggoyangkan kepala mereka, menurut mereka ini dapat mengaktifkan otak mereka dan menambahkan oksigen di kepala, banyak agama lain di Timur Tengah, seperti Islam juga ada menyuruh umatnya menunduk atau menggoyangkan kepala, ini guna dapat mensimulasikan otak kita supaya bertambah aktif. Lihat orang-orang Jepun, mereka sering menunduk-nundukkan kepala dan ianya sebagai adat. Ramai orang orang Jepun yang pandai? Adakah ianya sebagai kebetulan? Kegemaran mereka ialah sushi (ikan mentah). Adakah ini kebetulan? Fikirkanlah!

Berpusat di New York, Dewan perniagaan Yahudi bersedia membantu mereka yang berminat untuk melakukan bisnes (sudah tentu untuk Yahudi sahaja) jika mereka ada idea yang bernas, jawatankuasa akan memberi pinjaman tanpa faedah dan pentadbir dari jawatankuasa tadi akan bekerjasama dengan anda untuk memastikan yang perniagaan mereka menurut landasan yang betul. Maka itu lahirlah Starbuck, Dell Computer, Cocacola, DKNY, Oracle, Perfileman di Hollywood, Levis, Dunkin Donut dan ada beratus kedai ternama dibawah naungan dewan perniagaan Yahudi di New York. Graduan Yahudi dari fakulti perubatan New York akan disarankan untuk mendaftar dipersatuan ini dan digalakkan memulakan klinik mereka sendiri dengan bantuan wang tanpa faedah, barulah saya tahu mengapa hospital di New York dan California sentiasa kekurangan doktor pakar.

Kesimpulanya, pada teori saya, melahirkan anak dan keturunan yang bijak boleh dilaksanakan dan tentunya bukan semalaman, ianya memerlukan masa, beberapa generasi mungkin? Persiapan awal adalah ketika si ibu mengandung, galakkanlah si ibu melakukan latihan metamatik yang mudah tetapi konsisten disamping mendengar muzik klasik. Seterusnya ubahlah cara pemakanan, makanlah makanan yang elok dan berhasiat yang baik untuk otak, menghayati muzik sejak kecil adalah baik sekali untuk penumbuhan otak kanak-kanak, dengan bermain piano dan violin sudah tentu dapat melatih anak-anak mencerdaskan otak mereka demikian juga sukan yang memerlukan konsentrasi yang tinggi, seperti memanah, bola keranjang, dart dan menembak.

Merokok menjanjikan generasi yang moron (goblok) dan sudah tentu gen bodoh akan mengikut ke generasi si perokok. Lawatan saya ke Singapura pada tahun 2005 amat memeranjatkan sekali, di sini perokok seperti dianak tirikan dan begitu susah sekali untuk perokok dan anda tahu berapa harga sekotak rokok? US$ 7 !!! Ini bersamaan perbelanjaan sehari untuk makan anda!! Saya puji sekali sikap pemerintah Singapura dan menkjubkan sekali!!! Dan seperti Israel ianya begitu taboo dan cara pentadbiran dan segi pembelajaran mereka hampir serupa dengan Israel, maka itu saya lihat banyak institusi pelajaran mereka bertaraf dunia walaupun hakikatnya negeri Singapura hanyalah sebuah pulau sebesar Manhattan!!

Anda mungkin musykil, benarkah merokok dapat melahirkan generasi goblok, saya telah menemui beberapa bukti menyokong teori ini. Lihat saja Indonesia, jika anda ke Jakarta, dimana saja anda berada, dari restoran, teater, kebun bunga hingga ke muzium hidung anda akan segera terbau asak rokok! Dan harga rokok? Cuma US$ .70cts !!! Dan hasilnya? Dengan penduduknya berjumlah jutaan orang berapa banyakkah universiti terdapat di sana? Hasil apakah yang dapat dibanggakan? Teknologi? Jauh sekali. Adakah mereka dapat berbahasa selain dari bahasa mereka sendiri? Mengapa mereka begitu sukar sekali menguasai bahasa Inggeris? Ditangga berapakah kedudukan mereka dipertandingan metamatik sedunia? Adakah ini bukan akibat merokok? Anda fikirlah sendiri.

Di tesis saya ini, saya tidak akan menimbulkan soal agama atau bangsa, adakah Yahudi itu zalim sehingga diusir dari semenjak zaman Firaun hingga ke Hitler, bagi saya itu isu politik dan survival, yang ingin saya ketengahkan ialah, mampukah kita dapat melahirkan generasi yang bijak seperti Yahudi? Jawabanya ialah mungkin dan tidak mustahil dan ianya memerlukan perubahan, dari segi pemakanan dan cara mendididik anak dan saya kira hanya memerlukan 3 generasi sahaja. Ini dapat saya lihat sendiri tentang cucu saya, ini setelah saya mengajar anak saya melalui program yang telah saya nyatakan diatas tadi, pada umur 9 tahun (cucu saya) dia dapat menulis esay sepanjang 5 muka surat penuh. Esaynya hanyalah mengenai Mengapa saya gemarkan tomato!

RAJA DAN DEMOKRASI

1. Menteri Besar dalam sesebuah negeri adalah mewakili rakyat dalam sesebuah negeri untuk disembah kepada Raja. Orang lain, walau PM sekalipun adalah orang luar. Kalau tidak begitu maka akan timbul bermacam-macam krisis dan huru hara. Ini termasuklah siri-siri jenayah dan pencolekan seperti yang berlaku ke atas Menteri Besar Terengganu, Daud Samad dan beberapa Wakil Rakyat di Negeri Kelantan di tahun 1960an.

2. Status Institusi Raja akan terjejas di mata rakyat kalau Raja mendengar dan akur menerima nasihat (advise) dari orang lain. Di zaman Tun Dr. Mahathir, Institusi Raja terjejas teruk dan jangan-jangan ia terjejas lagi di kali ini. Ucapan saya ketika di Parlimen di masa itu antara lain berbunyi: “Orang politik akan menjadi Raja/Presiden di masa hadapan. Puncanya kerana peribadi sebahagian Raja-Raja itu sendiri.”

3. Sistem Beraja tidak menjadi semakin bertambah. Hendaklah diingati benar-benar bahawa sistem Beraja semakin hari semakin berkurangan. Bertambah tidak. Dunia boleh saksikan sendiri bagaimana Raja Nepal di Katmandu, Sultan Hussein di Singapura, Hamingkubuwono di Indonesia, Sultan Kudrat di Filipina, Al-Malik Farouk di Mesir, Shah Iran di Iran, Maharaja China di Negeri China, Maharaja Yaman di Yaman, Iraq, India dan seluruh Benua Eropah. Kini, mereka hanya tinggal sejarah.

4. Jadi, Institusi Raja di Malaysia perlu berhati-hati benar.

5. Saya sayangkan Institusi Raja kerana saya tahu bahawa rakyat hormatkan Rajanya. Saya sendiri dapat merasakannya kerana saya sendiri juga daripada keturunan Raja Jembal. Selain daripada menghormati saya dari aspek-aspek yang lain khususnya dari hal agama, mereka hormat saya kerana saya juga datang dari keturunan ini.

6. Tegasnya semua pihak perlu berhati-hati dalam menangani krisis yang cuba dicetuskan oleh pihak-pihak yang berkepentingan di luar dari Negeri Perak. Ingatlah, Allah Maha Berkuasa diatas segala sesuatu dan Allah tidak akan berpihak kepada pihak yang berbuat kezaliman.Sebaliknya, Allah akan menurunkan bantuan kepada mereka yang dikhianati dan mereka yang ditindas. Firman Allah S.W.T. bermaksud : “Maka orang-orang yang zalim itu dimusnahkan sampai ke akar-akarnya. Segala Puji Bagi Allah Tuhan semesta Alam.” (Surah Al An’aam: Ayat 45).Wallahua’lam.

Anwar power crazy: Tiong

PKR advisor’s call for special session of parliament to debate motion of no-confidence clear indication

BINTULU: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s call for a special session of parliament on Sept 23 to debate an opposition motion of no-confidence in the government is a clear indication of his craze for power.
This is how the Barisan Nasional Backbenchers’ Club (BNBBC) chairman Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing put it when asked to comment on Anwar’s call at a media conference held at Parkcity Everly Hotel yesterday which was also attended by Senator Pau Chiong Ung. Tiong said the so-called emergency parliament session was callous and was proof that Anwar was desperately fighting for his own interest.
“There is no need to call for a sitting because there is no point to it,” said Tiong.
When asked if any BN member of parliament was jumping ship, he said, “No one from the Taiwan study tour has expressed their intention to join Pakatan Rakyat.
“We only heard of rumours played by the opposition saying 31 and sometimes 40 MPs will be joining PR, but until today none has done so.”
“All I know is that BN MPs have indicated that they are all behind the current leadership, for bad or for good times,” he stressed.
On the Taiwan visit which ended on Sept 13, Tiong said they had visited several areas with emphasis on agriculture and aquaculture sites.
“We visited Pintong University that is well advanced in the fields of aquaculture, biotechnology and agriculture, Taiwan Highspeed Rail, and the leisure farming tourism industry.
“We will sit down to discuss what we have seen and heard during the study tour before we submit our findings and proposals to the Ministry of Agriculture and to parliament when it sits again on Oct 13. We are especially interested in how the Taiwanese people rear the grouper species of fish. Compared to 18 months for us, the Taiwanese are able to rear them until maturity in 10 months.”
On the appointment of community leaders, especially among the Chinese, Tiong said there should not be any compromise when it came to selection. He said that appointment should be made transparent and that most important of all the wishes and views of the people must be taken into consideration.

It’s Sept 16

THE reminder ‘Lest We Forget’ kept popping up during my recent interview with Datuk Amar James Wong Kim Min.
While he also had this printed as the title of his introduction in the books he had authored, these three little but powerful words could very well sum up everything needed to be said about the significance of Sept 16 to all Sarawakians.
“People don’t seem to understand or seem not to pay enough attention. Malaysia came into existence on Sept 16. Not Aug 31 which has no meaning to us Sarawakians,” he said in a fatherly tone which gave added piquancy to the aroma of thick coffee lingering in his office.
True to the testaments of other journalists who had covered this ‘grand old man of Sarawak politics’ before, Wong, even at 86, commands a conversation very well with his quick wits and blunt statements.
“He always has a knack for words with a bagful of useful phrases, idioms and proverbs,” a fellow journalist noted.
Wong’s interview on the subject of Sept 16 seemed long overdue, especially in these couple of years following talks about how important it was and how it should be celebrated.
Never mind that the date had been politicised somewhat, it is still an important day in Malaysia’s history and thesundaypost and its sister paper See Hua Daily News felt Wong’s opinion mattered.
“It is the day Malaysia was formed. If they want to celebrate on Aug 31, that’s up to them. In my heart, I know it’s Sept 16,” he said.
Obviously, respect for this date (Sept 16) runs deep in the heart of this paramount leader who played a pioneering role in Malaysia’s formation and in placing the nation in the eyes of world.
A telegram to Wong during a timber cruise in Baram in 1961 officially snowballed him into the quest to form Malaysia.
The telegram carried an invitation from the late Donald Stephens (later Tun Fuad Stephens) to come to Jesselton — now Kota Kinabalu — to meet and discuss Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra al-Haj’s offer to form a federation.
Before this, the idea of forming Malaysia was introduced to the Tunku, who, on May 27, 1961, at a luncheon press conference in Singapore, made the surprise offer of forming a federation, comprising the four territories — Malaya, Singapore, Sarawak and Sabah.
Wong apparently was no stranger to the idea, having been consulted before on the possibility of forming such a federation but nothing appeared concrete till then.
Accepting the invitation from Donald Stephens led to his appoinment as a delegate to the ‘Malaysia Solidarity Consultative Committee’ (MSCC), which frequently met to explore ideas of forming the Federation of Malaysia. At that point, Wong was only a Council Negeri member from Limbang.
Flipping through the pages of one of his books, Wong, who also happens to be the sole surviving member of the Sarawak delegation to the MSCC, pointed out that the best solution was to have a strong federation with special privileges and autonomy reserved for Sarawak and Sabah.
“It was impossible to even think Sarawak could make it on its own at that time,” he said.
As he put it, it was really a Hobson’s choice.
For one, Sarawakians did not have the expertise, experience and maturity to run their country if it were to become independent.
Sarawak was also short of financial resources, raking in RM75 million a year at that time.
“We had only little oil in Miri and we had not gone into gas discovery. Not to mention timber was not on yet. In fact, I arranged the first shipment of timber in the 1960s. We were still a broke country then,” he said matter-of-factly.
Moreover, Sarawak was facing threats from the Clandestine Communist Organisation (CCO) and its next door neighbour, Indonesia.
The concept of Malaysia was even more encouraging as the state had confidence in Singapore, Malaya and Sabah since they all had the same legislative system and government and were English-speaking, Wong said.
He shuddered at the thought of the threat posed by the CCO in the mid-50’s, especially one incident when a policeman was killed in Serian.
He too was not spared the terror when the CCO delivered two live bullets to his home as a ‘writing on the wall’ for being supportive of Malaysia’s formation.
However, his greatest fear was the possibility of a racial war breaking out among the 24 different ethnic races in Sarawak. With the people being very ‘clannish’ at that time, he feared the CCO would resort to instigating such a war and cause a bloodbath.
“What worried me then was if one of the CCO cadres were to dress like an Iban and go and kill a Malay for instance, then Sarawak could end up like the Congo,” he noted.
Wong also commended the formation of local councils in 1947 which were able to inculcate the teamwork culture in the people.
“We could not have defended ourselves. We did not have an army, our police force was very small. We could not have survived,” he said.
Meanwhile, once the MSCC had decided to federate, the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) was formed to discuss and draft the terms and conditions of the Constitution of Malaysia.
Here, Wong pointed out that in the case of Sarawak, special clauses were put in to guarantee that among others, land, civil service, local government and immigration would come under the state autonomy of Sarawak.
“I came up with my books because there were some complaints by one of the federal ministers on our immigration laws. He asked why must West Malaysians enter Sarawak with a passport.
“But he forgets that immigration is one of the autonomy given to Sarawak. You see, when Malaysia was formed, everyone had their rights. The states in West Malaysia have their own sultans and state governments, so we have our own too,” he explained.
On the oil royalty for Sarawak, Wong said: “It was discussed before (in the 1970s) that we wanted 15 per cent royalty but only got five per cent.”
He said Sabah also had five per cent oil royalty although according to recent newspapers reports, its former Chief Minister Datuk Harris Mohd Salleh had demanded more — 25 per cent to be exact.
Wong pointed out that Sarawak too should be getting up to 15 to 25 per cent in royalties.
The state government, he said, should stick to the London Agreement (Malaysian Agreement) signed in London.
Wong believed it was important for all Sarawakians to know their place in Malaysia, particularly their rights.
“Sabah gave away their rights on immigration when they gave away Labuan. When you go to Labuan, you can get into Sabah easily.”
He said it was unfortunate Malaysians in Sarawak in their 40s and even 50s, seemed ignorant or did not have the opportunity to know how Malaysia came about because at the time of the formation of Malaysia, those within this age group were still too young to understand the change that had taken place.
“Make no mistake about it. But for the grace of God and Malaysia, the fate of these Malaysians who I refer to would have been very different today. That’s why it’s so important for them to know the historical origin of Malaysia,” he said, reading from an excerpt of his book.
Looking at the current scenario, Wong said Sarawak had indeed progressed well but the most treasured essence of all was Sarawak had peace.
He reminded that other countries were not as fortunate as Malaysia — even the weather here is so kind and so Malaysians are indeed very lucky.
Wong pooh-poohed the Permatang Pauh by-election incident, which saw Umno chief for Bukit Bendera, Datuk Ahmad Ismail, labelling Chinese as immigrants.
He said this was not the government’s policy but rather an individual issue.
Although not denying the possibility of ‘some’ politicians resorting to racial issues to gain political mileage, he agreed it was not proper to blame the whole community just because of one individual.
“But I have no regrets — because if we do not have Malaysia, God help us.
“So there are advantages and disadvantages in being part of the federation,” he said.
Still, Wong feels disappointed and sad that the federal government has failed to recognise Sept 16.
To him, one of the biggest misconceptions some Malaysians might have is Sarawak joined Malaysia when truth be told, it helped form Malaysia.
Asked if Sarawak had ever requested for Sept 16 to be recognised, he said: “Look, you will always have as much right as you are prepared to fight for. On Aug 31, see how we celebrated it? But officially, it should be on Sept 16. You can’t get away from this. It’s not (from) me — it’s in our proclamation of Malaysia.”
Wong then referred to the state’s proclamation read by Sarawak’s first Chief Minister Dato Stephen Kalong Ningkan on Sept 16: “Now, therefore I, Stephen Kalong Ningkan, the Chief Minister of Sarawak, do hereby proclaim that Sarawak has this day attained independence as a state of Malaysia.”
He also said the Tunku, in announcing the proclamation of Malaysia, declared: “Now, in the name of God the Compassionate, the Merciful, I, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah, Prime Minister of Malaysia, with the concurrence and approval of His Majesty, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of the Federation of Malaya, His Excellency the Yang di-Pertuan Negara of Singapore, His Excellency the Yang di-Pertuan Negara of Sabah and His Excellency the Governor of Sarawak, do hereby declare and proclaim on behalf of the peoples of Malaysia that as from Sixteenth Day of September in the year one thousand nine hundred and sixty-three, corresponding to the twenty-eight day of Rabi’ul Akhir in the year of the Hijrah one thousand three hundred and eighty-three, that Malaysia comprising the states of Pahang, Terengganu, Kedah, Johore, Negri Sembilan, Kelantan, Selangor, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Malacca, Singapore, Sabah and Sarawak shall by the Grace of God, the Lord of the Universe, forever be an independent and sovereign democratic State founded upon liberty and justice ever seeking to defend and uphold peace and harmony among its peoples and to perpetuate peace among nations.”
Wong said after all that had been said and done, without Malaysia today, Sarawak would have been in one ‘hell of a mess — our lives would have been very different’.
But being in a big family, he stressed, required Sarawakians to be prepared to stand for their rights for they have as much rights as the others ‘lest we forget Malaysia is a federation of equal partners’.
Looking back, Wong said as a Sarawakian, he had made his contributions in making Sarawak a happy place to live in through what happened 45 years ago on Sept 16.
So come Tuesday, the Malaysian Flag will fly outside his office.
As for us, this Tuesday may just be the day to re-discover when the federation of Malaysia was actually formed and where we stand as Malaysians, lest we forget or worse, never know at all. By Puvaneswary Devindran

More funds needed for waste disposal: Rauf

KUCHING: Local authorities in Sarawak are in need of more allocation to upgrade their Solid Waste Disposal Service.
Assistant Minister of Environment Dr Abang Abdul Rauf Abang Zen said many councils, except for the larger local authorities in the state, were facing serious problems in the second phase of Solid Waste Disposal Service, which is disposal of waste.He said a few councils had not enough money even to cover the first phase of the service — collection of waste which is heavily government-subsidised, with just a few practising the ‘user-pay’ concept, thus operated without subsidy.
“Almost all smaller local authorities (except for a few in Kuching, Miri and Sibu) are facing serious problems in permanent disposal service requiring a good standard of sanitary landfills,” he said at a press conference at Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) office at Menara Pelita in Petra Jaya yesterday.
He listed out Kapit, Julau, Kanowit and Limbang as some of the towns that needed urgent attention.
Rauf, also Demak Laut assemblyman, pointed out that solid waste at the permanent dumping site, if untreated, would produce leachate or dirty water which would pollute the source of drinking water and produce gases that could pollute the atmosphere.
“An ‘open’ dumping site is a source of communicable diseases transmitted by flies and mosquitoes if near to residential areas.
“This situation is a big nuisance, an eyesore due to littering, illegal scavenging and bad odour,” he said.
According to the statistics for waste collection by the councils for the year 2006, the total amount of waste generated throughout Sarawak was 2,000 metric tonnes every day.
Rauf said there were four levels of proper sanitary landfills in Sarawak: level one being having some control of leachate discharging into an oxidation pond; level two has better control of leachate with underground protection.
“Level III has treatment of leachate where the water is of good standard quality while Level IV is the most advanced service where the addition is control of gas waste and treatment of scheduled wastes including toxic wastes,” he said, adding that advanced recycling services was optional.
According to him, the only one Level IV proper sanitary landfill is at Mambong, Level III landfills in Miri and Sibu while most of the other smaller councils are using ‘open’ dumping sites which are considered below Level I.
He said although the ministry had made recommendations in the past to upgrade solid waste disposal services, the constraint was the funding as these services were very expensive.
“Not only there is difficulty to get a proper land and sites but the services and facilities are very costly,” he said.
According to him, it takes a rough estimate of RM50 million for development cost (inclusive of land) only for level IV landfill, RM20 million to RM30 million for level III facilities, RM5 million to RM10 million for level II and up to RM5 million for level I.
To overcome this problem, Rauf said Minister of Environment and Public Health Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh and Housing and Local Government Deputy Minister Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew would be asking for more funds from the federal government.
He said NREB was now doing a holistic Master Plan Study to review existing solid waste management in local authorities throughout Sarawak, study the extent and impact of pollution of the landfills to surrounding environment and propose measures to control pollutions sources.
“Other objectives are to analyse and recommend solid waste management plan(s) for respective local authorities or inter-authorities partnership, propose rehabilitation work plan for landfills/dumping grounds which have come to the end of their life span and to study details of the development and operational costs of sanitary landfills.
Rauf said NREB would make recommendations to the Ministry of Environment and Public Health on the appropriate levels of sanitary landfills.
“For a rural setting, Level I is adequate. A smaller town will need Level II, bigger towns, Level III and city councils definitely, Level IV,” he added.
“However, local authorities close to each other and have good road system can have a higher level by sharing sanitary landfills,” he said. By Ting Tieng Hee

Legislation won’t solve race problems: Jeffrey

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice president Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan has urged the government to reconsider its move to draw up a Race Relations Act.
He felt that race relations should be nurtured and promoted, not forced through the use of legislation.
He said the more the government enacts laws to force race relations, the more sensitive and problematic it will be to promote good relations among the various races in the country.
“Enacting laws on race relations is, therefore, not the best way to solve racial sensitivities in Malaysia,” said Jeffrey when commenting on a recent statement by Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar who said the government would draft a Race Relations Act to safeguard and strengthen relations among the different races in the country.
Syed Hamid said the formulation of the proposed act has been agreed upon by the cabinet, and the task will be headed by the Home Ministry and Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage Ministry.
If the government was serious and sincere about solving racial sensitivities, Jeffrey said the best way is to promote the universal concept of social justice and respect by treating all Malaysians equally.
He said this would mean that Malaysia might have to dismantle and do away with racial-based politics and political parties.
Instead, the country would have to promote multi-racialism and the concept of a Malaysian national identity or Malaysian race, he said.
“As long as we continue to politicise race through race-based politics and political parties, no amount of legislation will solve racial problems and sensitivities,” Jeffrey cautioned.

SAPP No. 2 reveals ‘political secret’

Yong’s game plan was to get more seats for SAPP but that did not materialise: Raymond Tan

KOTA KINABALU: What triggered Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) president Datuk Yong Teck Lee’s announcement on Sept 17 to pull out from the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition?
While it appears a mystery, SAPP deputy president Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah — who disagreed with the decision to leave BN — has revealed that Yong was actually unhappy when no additional seats were given to SAPP in the last general election.
Although the SAPP supreme council has cited the loss of the BN spirit within the coalition as the main reason for the party’s pullout, it appears to be shrouded in ambiguities as the party tries to strategise its political game plan.
They justified their move by saying that Sabah has been short-changed all this while and highlighted the eight-point declaration to achieve the desired result.
These included good governance and non-racial politics, automony for Sabah, a 20 per cent oil royalty, return of Labuan, review of unfair laws and detrimental departments, Borneonisation of the Federal civil service, solution to the illegal issues and redress economic and social imbalances.
However, Raymond’s revelation has somewhat unearthed “a political secret” behind the party’s move to ditch BN.
It became more confusing when Yong reportedly declared his intention to contest on a BN ticket in the Kota Kinabalu parliamentary seat before the March 8 general election.
Raymond was quoted Wednesday as saying that “Yong’s game plan was to get more seats for SAPP” but it did not materialise.
“I believe this could be the real triggering event that evoked the feelings or seeds of unhappiness towards the BN leadership.
“I think the rest are only contributing factors that precipitated the departure of SAPP from the BN coalition,” veteran political analyst Iskandar Martin Gayo told Bernama yesterday.
Iskandar said as a BN component party, SAPP should have settled the issue of seat allocation within the BN family in a friendly atmosphere.
“But, it’s still unclear why SAPP could not accept the seat allocations of two parliamentary and four state seats.
“But, one thing’s for sure, other small parties like Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) and Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) abided by the decision of the BN leadership.
“Perhaps, SAPP was confident of being allocated additional seats but it did not turn out the way they wanted it to be,” he said.
Iskandar opined this might have prompted SAPP to adopt a confrontational approach in tackling the long overdue Sabah issues, particularly the problem of illegal immigrants, which SAPP attributed to the failure of the federal government to champion the cause of the people in the state.
This culminated, on June 18, in SAPP proposing to table a vote of no-confidence against prime minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
Yong said then SAPP had lost confidence in the Prime Minister’s leadership and declared that two of its MPs would support the motion.
SAPP has two MPs — Datuk Eric Enchin Majimbun (Sepanggar) and Datuk Dr Chua Soon Bui (Tawau) — and four assemblymen: Melanie Chia (Luyang), Datuk Liew Teck Chan (Likas), Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Raymond Tan who is deputy president and Tanjung Papat assemblyman and Au Kam Wah (Elopura).
Subsequently, on June 20, Abdullah said Yong was unhappy about this and wanted to contest the Kota Kinabalu seat, which was already allotted to Parti Bersatu Sabah.
If Yong was not greedy, he could have played a significant role in bringing positive development to Sabah, Abdullah was quoted as saying.

What Sarawakians want is better highway

I REFER to an article published in The Borneo Post on Aug 13 where the prime minister assured that Sarawak would get more value-added development.
What we in Sarawak want is for the highway to Miri to be upgraded from its present pitiful state to be on par with the North-South Highway in the peninsula.
The state government has not fought hard enough for the federal government to channel funds for the reconstruction of the Pan Borneo Highway, which in its present state, does not reflect Sarawak’s contribution to Malaysia since the formation of Malaysia 45 years ago.
All we ask is that the federal government ask the Deputy Minister of Works who happens to be from Sarawak to travel by road from Kuching to Miri and thence through Negara Brunei Darussalam to Limbang and Lawas and thence on to Sabah, and similarly travel from Johor to Perlis via the North-South Highway and then submit a report on the condition of this Pan Borneo Highway and ask this question: Do we deserve this type of road after 45 years and the countless contributions Sarawak has made to Malaysia?
If the Deputy Minister of Works were to travel from Kuching to Miri by road, we ask that he bring along the state minister of In-frastructure Development and other officials from the Ministry of Works.
I am a regular user of the Pan Borneo Highway as my business requires me to travel by road at least once a month from Kuching to Miri where I have to call at various towns along the Pan Borneo Highway.
I have also travelled along the North-South Highway from Johor to Perlis, at least twice a year.
What we have as the Pan Borneo Highway does not reflect the contribution Sarawak has made to the Federation and we are being ‘anak tirikan’ by the federal government.
So to reflect the appreciation of the federal government for Sarawak’s contribution, improve the Pan Borneo Highway to one that is comparable to that of the North-South Highway in Semenanjung Malaysia. By Victor James, Kuching

KUCHING: The political instability in the country since the general election on March 8 was yesterday said to be caused by “one man’s uncontrollable desire to be the Prime Minister”.
Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Dato Sri Dr James Masing, who said this, believed that Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was willing to take huge risks to become the country’s premier.
“In order to fulfil his ambition, Anwar is willing to sacrifice the welfare of Malaysians and ignore all the tenets and rules of parliamentary democracy,” Masing said in a press statement.
In this respect, he said he agreed with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s assertion that Anwar was “a threat to the security and economy of Malaysia”.

Rasuah di Sarawak serius

Dikategorikan antara yang catat jumlah kes rasuah tertinggi di negara ini
KUCHING: Sarawak dikategorikan antara negeri yang mencatatkan jumlah kes rasuah tertinggi di negara ini, kata Pengarah Badan Pencegah Rasuah (BPR) Sarawak Mohd Yusoff Akope.
Menurut statistik BPR, seramai 453 orang ditahan kerana pelbagai kesalahan rasuah di seluruh negara sepanjang tempoh lapan bulan pertama tahun ini.
“Daripada 453 orang yang diberkas ini, 11 peratus atau 49 orang yang ditahan oleh BPR Sarawak telah dihadapkan ke mahkamah.
“BPR Sarawak turut menerima 880 aduan berhubung gejala rasuah, daripada jumlah ini kita telah membuka 77 kertas siasatan dan 353 fail pertanyaan risikan,” katanya ketika ditemui pada majlis Program Gerak Mesra BPR-JAIS Bersama Masyarakat di Pusat Penerangan Islam di sini, semalam.
Majlis anjuran BPR Sarawak itu dirasmikan oleh Pengarah Jabatan Agama Islam Sarawak (JAIS) Datu Misnu Taha.
Yusoff menambah, kumpulan pengurusan dan profesional merupakan golongan yang paling ramai terlibat dengan kes rasuah di negeri ini.
“Tangkapan melibatkan golongan profesional ialah seramai 16 orang, kumpulan sokongan (14), swasta (12) dan orang awam, tujuh orang,” katanya sambil menambah, 68 kes lagi sedang dibicarakan di beberapa mahkamah di negeri ini.
Beliau turut menafikan tuduhan pihak tertentu yang mendakwa BPR hanya meng-ambil tindakan terhadap golongan ‘ikan bilis’ berbanding ‘ikan jerung’, sebaliknya memberi jaminan bahawa BPR tidak akan berkompromi dengan mana-mana pihak yang didapati terlibat dengan rasuah.
Sungguhpun demikian, katanya jenayah rasuah di negara ini dikategorikan berada di tahap sederhana berdasarkan Indek Persepsi Rasuah (CPI) yang dikeluarkan oleh Transparensi International.
“Malaysia berada pada paras lima daripada 10 mata penuh ukuran CPI,” tambahnya.

Lelaki penama Vincent Sabang, 36, ditemu geganjang tingkap ba tengah bilik besai rumah suwa nya.
Kepala Polis Pelilih Sibu ACP Shafie Ismail madah, bala sida dipadah urung pukul 9.30 pagi kemari ulih siku indu ke talipaun ngagai bilik operasi polis.
Udah nerima pemadah nya, seraban penasat polis berumban nguang alai nya ba ringkat dua sebuah rumah kedai nitihka padah pengangau.
“Lebuh datai dia, kami bisi nemu siku indu ke gegaring ba mua pintu,” ku iya.
Shafie madah, indu nya penama Agatha Masang, 32, agi nemu orang tang ngetatka abi ba pah kanan iya.
Udah nya lebuh diperesa enggau silik agi, polis bisi nemu siku lelaki bansa Indonesia ke mega bakal ba surur rumah suwa nya.
Lelaki penama Ricky Purba, 32, ari Medan, Indonesia balat bakal ba kedua piak jari iya, tubuh enggau pala. Seduai dua iku nya sama dibai ke Sepital Sibu ngena kerita ambulans.
Ku Shafie agi, lebuh sida datai dia polis bisi nemu tiga bilah lungga enggau sebilah duku panjai sekaki setengah.
Ku iya, sebilah lungga nya ditemu semak indu ke gegaring ba mua pintu lalu sebilah agi nya ku iya, ditemu semak lelaki rayat Indonesia ke gawa ba siti palan ngaga kapal ditu.

Penyelidik usm temui lapan rangka manusia dari zaman Neolitik di Gua Kain Hitam, Taman Negara Niah

PULAU PINANG: Penyelidik Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) berjaya menemui lapan rangka manusia prasejarah berusia lebih 2,000 tahun di Gua Kain Hitam, Sarawak yang membuktikan kewujudan manusia zaman Neolitik di situ.
Ketua Penyelidik yang juga pensyarah Pusat Penyelidikan Arkeologi Malaysia (PPAM) Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Prof Madya Stephen Chia berkata rangka yang ditemui itu dipercayai mempunyai kaitan dengan rangka berusia lebih 40,000 tahun yang ditemui 53 tahun lepas di Gua Niah, Sarawak.
“Kesemua rangka yang hampir lengkap dari kepala ke kaki ditemui sejak 2007 dalam posisi lurus dan keadaannya sangat reput serta kebanyakan tulangnya juga sudah pecah,” katanya pada sidang akhbar di sini kelmarin.
